THE place for another visit: At-ease atmosphere, bottomless helpings, superb pasta make it a good choice for Saturday night.

Fratelli’s has been in business long enough to have become a dining fixture on the edge of Salisbury University. We found it pleasantly busy but not packed, and enjoyed people-watching around tables that had older diners eating quietly, parents with babies, large groups of students, and families spanning three generations.

We’ve heard that Fratelli’s is THE place in Salisbury to have crab cakes, and we’ve tried them before and liked them. This time we skipped the straight ‘cakes but sampled crab meat as part of two dishes. Though very different, both the Seafood Marinara and the Veal Oscar would please any crab lover. The Seafood Marinara featured large shrimp and scallops plus chunks of crab meat so large they almost seemed too good to be true. The seafood was topped with a marinara sauce and served on a bed of the restaurant’s homemade pasta, which was just perfect in texture and flavor. Chunks of crab meat also starred atop the Veal Oscar, this time swimming in a light cream sauce along with asparagus and tender pieces of veal.

Our meal was made immeasurably better by the server, who was efficient, attentive, friendly and humorous despite covering a number of tables besides ours. He responded quickly to every request, and even took the time to talk and joke with the two children at our table. It’s not the fist time we’ve noticed that Fratelli’s staff treats customers like close friends or even family, and we liked it.

Our only quibble with this Fratelli’s experience came when we returned to our car after the meal and noticed the sign in the parking lot: “Room available.” We hope that refers to a special space in Fratelli’s for functions, because if it efers to the state of your stomach after dining at Fratelli’s, it’s false advertising. With a bottomless salad bowl, endless bread sticks and superb pasta, no one gets out of Fratelli’s with room to spare.
